Valentine’s Day weekend at Balcones Springs was a weekend full of fun outdoor adventures and bonding for several of our camper mothers and their sons--and some new friends as well!
The weekend involved arts and crafts, horseback riding, rock climbing, zip-lining, canoeing and kayaking in Balcones Springs’ Lake Ted, and of course, lots of eating! The mothers even had some time to relax with wine and cheese while the boys watched a movie and enjoyed ice cream.
After dinner on the second night, everyone enjoyed s’mores and a bonfire before being surprised by camp’s most famous event—Mission Impossible! Mothers and sons were put on teams and given a “mission” to find certain glow sticks hidden all over camp. This process was more easily said than done, however, as they were being pursued in their search by bandits armed with water balloons!
The next morning, we bid adieu to all of our lovely mothers and sons, but hopefully not for long! Camp is just around the corner, and we hope to see all of our guests—and more—back here in no time.
Some comments left by our lovely guests include:
“I could not have asked for a better weekend, the staff was so loving and welcoming.”
“Had a wonderful time and the staff was extremely friendly – we will be back!”
“We are leaving with memories I know will last a lifetime.”
If this sounds like fun to you and you missed out, don’t fret! We are hosting a similar weekend retreat for the whole family--CBS Family Camp--March 7-9, 2014.
The Mother/Son Retreat was coordinated by Carolyn Hays.

Hope Mommies Winter Retreat
Two weekends ago, the Retreat at Balcones Springs had the pleasure of hosting Hope Mommies in their 2014 Winter Retreat!
Hope Mommies is a 501(c)3 Christian non-profit providing support and community for mothers who have lost an infant. The weekend consisted of worship, discussions, and community building with members new and old. It all took place at Balcones Springs’ beautiful Hill Country property, providing ample space and recreation for enjoying the outdoors, as well as cozy cabins and meeting spaces to facilitate group activities.
We were so inspired by the Hope Mommies and loved having them with us for the weekend! The Hope Mommies also had the kindest things to say about their event at the Retreat at Balcones Springs:
“You were so kind and attentive!”
“So grateful for this beautiful facility.”
“Loved our stay here and thank you to all the wonderful staff!”
Thank you, Hope Mommies! We loved having you and hope you come back to see us soon!
The Hope Mommies retreat was coordinated by Balcones Springs’ Samantha Schoen.
